1Cleaning & General Care
Carbon fibre is strong and durable, but its finish and bonded
components deserve gentle, regular care. A clean bike is also an easy
bike to inspect — dirt hides the chips and cracks you want to catch early.
Do
- Wash with lukewarm water, mild dish soap, and a soft sponge or brush.
- Rinse gently — a light hose flow or bucket is plenty.
- Dry with a soft microfibre cloth after every wet wash.
- Use a dedicated bike wash or carbon-safe cleaner for stubborn grime.
- Apply frame polish or protectant sparingly to the painted surfaces only.
Avoid
- Pressure washers — they force water and grit into bearings and bonded joints.
- Solvents, degreasers, or petroleum products on the frame finish.
- Abrasive pads or scouring brushes that scratch clear-coat.
- Spraying directly into the headset, bottom bracket, or hub seals.
- Leaving the bike wet — trapped moisture invites corrosion at metal interfaces.
Keep degreaser on the drivetrain where it belongs (chain, cassette,
derailleur pulleys) and off the frame. Wipe the chain down and re-lube
after any wet or dusty ride.
2Torque & Fasteners
Correct fastener torque is critical on a carbon bike — both for your
safety and for the longevity of the frame and components.
Always use a calibrated torque wrench, and never exceed
the value printed on a component. When in doubt, have a qualified bicycle
mechanic torque your fasteners.
Important: The values below are maximum torque specs.
Tighten gradually and in stages, alternating between bolts where a part
uses more than one. Use carbon assembly (friction) paste on seatpost and
bar/stem clamp interfaces — it lets you reach holding force at lower torque.

3Racks & Transport
How you carry your bike matters as much as how you ride it. The golden
rule for carbon: never use a rack that clamps or presses against
the frame tubes. Clamping force concentrated on a carbon tube can
crack it, and the damage often isn't visible until it fails.
- Best — wheel-clamp platform racks. These secure the
bike by the wheels/tyres and never touch the frame. Example: Thule T2 Pro.
- Also great — vertical / hanging racks that hold by the wheels.
Example: Thule Revert.
- Avoid — trunk and hitch racks with frame-clamp arms.
If you must use one, fit a rigid frame protector or a dummy crossbar and
never clamp directly on a carbon tube.
On the road: double-check wheel straps after the first
few minutes of driving, and again at stops. Remove computers, lights, and
bottles before transport.

4Storage & Humidity
Carbon doesn't rust, but the metal hardware, bearings, and cables on
your bike do. Store smart and everything lasts longer.
- Store indoors in a cool, dry space away from direct sunlight —
prolonged UV exposure can dull clear-coat and degrade tyres.
- Keep the bike clean and dry before storing for any length of time.
- Avoid damp basements, sheds, or anywhere humidity sits high; moisture
promotes corrosion at every metal interface.
- For long-term storage, hang the bike or support it so the tyres aren't
bearing full weight against a cold floor.
- Never store near furnaces, heaters, or in a hot vehicle — extreme heat
is not friendly to resins or tyres.
5Post-Ride & Wet-Ride Routine
A few minutes after a wet or dusty ride saves a lot of wear down the road.
- Rinse off mud and road grime gently while it's still soft — dried grit
is abrasive.
- Dry the frame, then wipe down the chain and re-lube it.
- Pay attention to areas where water collects: under the bottom bracket,
around the seatpost collar, and at cable entries.
- If you ride frequently in the wet, periodically remove the seatpost,
dry the inside of the frame, and re-apply friction paste before reinserting.
- Check tyre pressure and give the drivetrain a quick once-over before
your next ride.
